IceBerry Georgetown

Frozen yogurts becoming more and more popular these years. More and more frozen yogurt stores open in DC. Many of my friends recommend IceBerry. They all claim that IceBerry's frozen yogurt is the best. IceBerry has been very successful now and opens many stores around the country. They promise to provide nonfat frozen yogurt with low sugar which I think should be a good selling point to young ladies.

I went shopping in Georgetown last weekend and finally got a chance to try IceBerry's frozen yogurt since I found a IceBerry store in Georgetown. Their store is small and clean. They provide a wide range of topping selections. I choose mango and strawberry. Both toppings tasted fresh. As to the frozen yogurt itself, really delicious. However, I did not find the difference with other frozen yogurt brands. The product here is good, but I cannot say that it is better than others.

Georgetown Cupcake

Big name, great location, popular products! Georgetown Cupcakes can be regarded as the one of the most famous and successful dessert stores in DC. Sometimes, I think it is a fashion more than a dessert. I like their cupcakes, but sometimes I really do want to shop there due to the long line. Every time I passing by their store in Georgetown, I can see a waiting line. Last time I got there at 8:30 p.m, it still took me about half an hour to get my cupcakes. Based on such situation, I think their store space is too small to serve the large number of customers. I do not know why they are not considering find a bigger space. I guess one reason is that with a long waiting time, people are more willing to purchase more cakes to pay back their waiting time! I just found out that they now providing online order so that you do not need to wait in line when you arrive! Good job!

Unlike Georgetown Scoops, they provide lots of daily regular and special selections and all look very yummy. I have tried several cupcakes there. My top three flavors are Chocolate square, Coconut, and Vanilla square. I know that "square" flavors means strong taste. However, personally I cannot find out the differences. Based on all my experience, the only bad thing here is all cupcakes here are very sweet!

Lastly, a video show you how to make your own Ice cream cupcake at home.

Thai Place’s coconut theme

Continue with last time’s Thai Place’s blog, in this blog, I would like to introduce another two desserts from Thai Place. I found most of the Thai Place’s desserts are mango and coconut flavors.
The first dessert I want to share with you is their Coconut Pudding. I love pudding. But this one is definitely the most unique I have ever seen. Based on my understanding and experience, pudding is always sweet, soft, silky, and smooth. However, Thai Place’s pudding is hot and a little bit sticky. When I first looking at it, I even cannot figure out what it was. It is not that sweet but with very strong coconut taste. I cannot say that I prefer Thai Place’s Thai pudding style. But it is not bed. If you go there, you can have a try and get a special experience. The container is also very interesting. Ordering one coconut pudding, you will have three very small bowls of pudding.

I do not know the exact name of the second dessert I want to introduce. Actually, it should be regarded as a coconut-flavored beverage. It is the combination of coconut smoothie and light alcohol. I want to say that it is one of my top favorites and it is a good selection for ladies.

Campus Fresh: Fro-Yo

I think most of the GW should be very familiar with Campus Fresh. Campus Fresh is located on campus at GW inside the Lerner Health and Wellness Center. It is inside the building that needs a GW ID to go into the building so that it might not be that easy for other folks to come in. However, one advantage of their special location is that since it is in the gym so you may feel healthy when you eat. They serve Salads, Gourmet Burritos, Paninis, Skinny Pizzas, Fruit Smoothies and Natural Fro-Yo. As they advertisement, they offering everything from low-fat to high protein as well as kosher and vegetarian items for customers to choose from.

For me, I am definitely a fan of their Frozen Yogurt. I think it is one of the best in DC. The price is not that cheap but still reasonable since the size here is a little bit bigger others. They provide about 15 toppings to choose from. I have tried several combinations of them. So far, my favorite is Strawberry plus Oreo. The frozen yogurt tastes really good and natural. And the fruit are fresh. Love it! Now summer is approaching and it is time to go and eat more frequently!

Mango & Sticky Rice

In this blog, I want to introduce a special dessert I tried.
Unlike Chinese restaurants, there are not too many Thai food restaurants in DC. The one I usually go is called “Thai Place”. It is a Thai restaurant close to Foggy Bottom metro station. I know it is Thai Place is not the best Thai restaurant in town. But it should be the one of the cheapest and the best on GW campus.

The restaurant is very small and it is a little dark inside the room. But still it is stylish and clean. And they even have a bar area in such a limited space.
The Thai food they provided taste quite different from those I tried in China, kind of sweet here. Anyway, their shrimp cake, Thai Place noodle, and Pineapple fried rice are all my top favorites.

Last week, I tried their Thai style dessert called “ Mango & sticky rice. It is the most special dessert I have ever tried. For this dish, I got a huge piece of sweet and fresh mango. Love it! But I think the biggest selling point for this dessert is not the mango but the sticky rice. It was green in color with white and light sweetened coconut sauce on the top. As to its name, the rice was sticky. The most amazing thing was that the rice tasted both sweet and salty. Actually, it was very hard to explain the taste.

Cherry Blossom Shake

Always love the cherry blossom season in DC. But this year the weather is not that enjoyable for such a beautiful theme.

This year, Potbelly introduced Cherry Blossom Shake to celebrate springtime. I saw this promotion ads several times. And I think it is really good business idea in DC in April since thousands of people for the Cherry Blossom Festival.
As promoted, this product is available for a limited time only. And another selling point they created is that a portion of the proceeds from each Cherry Blossom shake will be donated to the Arbor Day Foundation which will come help Potbelly plant a tree.

Before I always trying this cherry shake, I was imaging how would it look like and taste? How could Potbelly relate it to cherry blossom? Will this really taste like cherry flower? But when I finally tried this shake, I found all my imagination were wrong.

First look, traditional Potbelly drinking bottle. The only special here was the cherry flower shape cookie on the straw.  Inside the bottle, the shake was light pink in color, which just fit the cherry blossom theme.
Regarding the taste, it was huge milky taste, which actually is my top favorite. And it was cherry fruit style instead of cherry flower that I imagined before. I do not think it was quite related to its name “ Cherry Blossom Shake”. However, I think it tasted very good and I will definitely try again.

One thing I was satisfied with it was that the shake was thick and the straw was too thin. With the cherry fruit inside, sometimes it was really hard to absorb. I highly suggest they can provide a crude straw in the future.

Top cheesecake flavors

This is cheesecake posting again. Along with my last posting, we are still in Cheesecake Factory now!
Last time, I shared the general information of the Cheesecake Factory, including location, inside atmosphere, and dining options. However, the only thing I did not mention was their cheesecake.
Cheesecake Factory provides lots of cheesecake flavors for the guests to choose from. All of them look great. Personally, I have tried several of them. Today, I just want to share to some of my experience.

The first one is their most classic and popular strawberry cheesecake. It looks good, especially with the shinning strawberry on the top. For the cheesecake itself, I say it tasted almost the same as the original cheesecake flavor. So the only difference would be the strawberry. But as a strawberry fan, I will always go with this one. Back to the cake, it tasted very delicious, not that sweet. So for this cake, I would give it 95 points.

The second one I want to talk about is their Godiva Chocolate cheesecake. I tried this one because of the name. I thought it would be made by Godiva chocolate which was my favorite chocolate brand. However, when it finally came to my table, I found it was not. There was only one small piece of Godiva chocolate on the top. Again, the cake tasted good. But it was very sweet. In my opinion, it was worse than their original flavor. So, I would say, for this cake, I would give it 75 points.

The final one I want to mention today was their Halloween specialty: Pumpkin Cheesecake. This one looked good. But personally I did not like it very much since they put too much cinnamon in this cake that I do not like it. And I could not figure out the pumpkin taste from the cake. So I would only give 65 points to this flavor.
Last but not least, for all flavors, the best thing I love for their cheesecakes is the smooth cream they provide for each cake.
